Seeing the Unseen: Amplifying Underrepresented Voices in an Unsteady World

Session Details: Nearly nine in 10 U.S. adults reported feeling some kind of financial stress at the start of 2026. But behind every economic statistic is a household quietly figuring out what life must look like now- deciding what must be protected, what can be sacrificed, and who they can trust. People aren’t just cutting back. They’re redesigning everyday life to make it work. This session explores the lived experiences of Americans navigating financial pressure, with particular attention to voices often underrepresented or misrepresented in traditional research samples and national averages.
 
Drawing on original research that blends immersive ethnographic engagements with a national survey, we explore:
- When it can be valuable to “break the rules” to lead with empathy and tell a more human story
- A deeper understanding of these methods
- A closer look at how precarious realities shape consumer expectations and what this may mean for researchers, insights teams, and the organizations they support.
